August Wilson Online Workshop for achieving a comprehensive understanding of August Wilson and his plays. Serving as an intensive or introduction, this workshop will give critical insight into this important playwright and his work. What professional or student of the theatre wouldn’t want to gain further knowledge and a clear perspective on August Wilson and his creations to enhance further study and future work?


This class is ideal for:


Actors, Directors, Writers, Dramaturges, Producers, Professionals, and Students who want a crash course on August Wilson and his writing. This workshop is designed to offer a critical look at this theatre artist in order to provide foundation for a more in depth study in the future. 


Students will develop a better understanding of August Wilson and his writing by engaging in a critical analysis of this human being and his plays. The workshop offers a complex perspective by reading, studying, and analyzing one of Wilson’s plays and by understanding aspects of Wilson’s life and historical and cultural context closely associated with Wilson and his work. This workshop provides skills and a point of view that will be used in preparation for years to come.

Presented by the Award Winning and Critically Acclaimed Forgotten Artist Productions in New York. Forgotten Artist Productions specializes in Film and Theatre Productions.
Taught by Michael Thomas Cain (Award Winning Writer, Director, and Producer of Film and Theatre).


Michael Thomas Cain is the Founder of Forgotten Artist Productions with 12 plus years of teaching experience in higher education and studios/theatres. During this time, Michael has taught thousands of students in his classes how to critically think about a text and express their thoughts and ideas on the material. In addition to his extensive classroom experience at the college/university level, Michael has built, mostly in and around NYC, a professional career in the business over the last 20 years. Recently, films that Michael wrote, directed, and produced have been Award Winners at prominent Film Festivals, and plays that Michael wrote, directed, and produced have received critical acclaim. Forgotten Artist Productions has been a vital source over the last few years in supporting these achievements and in giving many filmmakers, theatremakers, and artists an opportunity to explore and create their work. Michael also obtained an M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing and a B.A. in Communications/Theatre.


Suggested for ages 18 and over due to workshop content and level of study. The workshop is designed as a college level workshop (and above) and/or for adults who are planning on or are working in the business.

If you do not, you’ll need to create a Gmail email account for free so you’ll be able to gain access. This class uses Google Classroom as the Learning Management System (a platform for presenting and using online education). Once you enroll in the workshop, you’ll receive a welcome email with a link to gain access to the workshop. The link will take you to the material once you log in using your Gmail email account.
